Every year, as our season comes to an end we take Orwell Lady up the river for a training session refresher to ensure all our skills are up to date.
We practice man overboard, preparing for an emergency (such as water entering the boat or a fire), putting lifejackets onto adults and children, confirming the location of fire extinguishers and how to deploy and release our liferafts.
In early March, ahead of the start of our season, we will all meet again to run through hospitality training and practice evacuation procedures with Harwich Lifeboat crew and also the police/coastguard.
Orwell Lady is licensed by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) and inspected every year, with a series of surveys – one of which is the training of our staff.
We take all our safety and social responsibilities seriously, and recognise people may have questions – call us or chat to any of our crew during your trip.
